Last year, following the cancellation of the 2020 sailing season due to coronavirus, a huge number of sailors were drawn back to the south. First and foremost to Croatia, as the sailing areas there are easily accessible by car, especially for crews from Austria, Switzerland and southern Germany. Nobody really wanted to fly last summer.
That will change this year. Nevertheless, the Adriatic in particular will be full again. Most charter fleet operators already have hardly any boats available for the best weeks of the year. So is it better to switch to sailing areas in other countries? Or are there other ways of escaping the foreseeable hustle and bustle?
YACHT author Thomas Käsbohrer has asked around. Not only with the charter providers in Croatia, but also in several popular Mediterranean areas. In his latest report, he not only describes the situation and the reasons for full harbours and bays, but also gives tips on how you can still go sailing in a relaxed manner.
Käsbohrer also took a close look at the situation in the harbours and marinas in the south: Where are there still free berths for owner-operated vessels, where is the prospect of a seasonal berth slim? And do prices remain constant, where are they rising and how high?
Answers to this and more can now be found in the large Mediterranean report in YACHT 9/2022, available as a digital edition in the YACHT app and can be ordered directly here. Or you can download the articles directly via the links below
