Few things are as fulfilling and blissful as spending time on a boat. But why is that? What causes this all-round feel-good effect? A search for clues

Time on board is almost always a good time. And it's not for nothing that the saying goes that a weekend on board has a much more positive effect than a week's holiday on land. But what exactly happens to sailors? How can the known effects be explained? YACHT lets experts from a wide range of backgrounds have their say on this topic.

"The thoughts of the land remain on land" - this is how a very experienced psychologist describes an essential prerequisite for a feeling of elation at sea. And he says: "Once we've cast off, it's basically all about basic needs."

In the new issue, experts in their respective fields describe in detail how the system behind it works, but it is by no means a purely academic treatise. Too many clever minds without a scientific background have already commented on the subject, such as former US President John F. Kennedy: "It is an interesting biological fact that we all have exactly the same salt content in our blood in our veins as exists in the sea. When we go back to the sea, whether it's to sail or to observe, we go back to where we came from."

There are many other extremely interesting explanations for this well-known phenomenon. We have compiled many of them into an informative report in the new YACHT. Issue 1/2020 is now available at newsagents, in the DK shop or digitally right here!
