Anyone looking for nautical literature for a trip to the Baltic States has so far had a fairly limited number of area and harbour guides to choose from. The Estonian and Latvian tourism association has recognised this and launched the East Baltic Coast project. The aim is to offer sailors a close-knit network of harbours with good infrastructure.
The Sail Estonia and Latvia area guide is part of this project funded by the European Union and contains general area information and harbour descriptions for more than 50 marinas and moorings along the Gulf of Riga on Saaremaa up to the Russian border. The Latvian harbours are presented with aerial photographs and sections of nautical charts. There is also a description of the approach with depth information and an overview of the available infrastructure such as shore power, drinking water, showers, washing facilities and WLAN.
The Estonian part lacks the nautical chart sections, but there is a somewhat detailed description of the harbour situation and weather protection.
Sail Estonia and Latvia can be downloaded free of charge from the website of the East Baltic Coast Association Downloaded become.
A similar service is offered by the website of the South Baltic Coast Association with the Online harbour guide for the East German and Polish Baltic coast, Klaipeda and Bornholm.
