Ready to cast off. The restored and re-rigged "Peking" in Wewelsfleth near Glückstadt on the River Elbe
On Monday, the legendary Flying P-Liner will be towed up the Elbe from the Peters shipyard near Glückstadt to Hamburg. There it will serve as a museum ship in future

Windjammer fans in this country have been waiting a long time for this day: The restoration of the ship's exterior is almost complete and the rigging is back in place. Now, shortly after six o'clock on Monday morning, the mooring lines of the "Peking", which has been moored at the outfitting pier of the Peters shipyard in Wewelsfleth for several weeks, are cast off. Half an hour later, the four-masted barque is first manoeuvred through the Störsperrwerk and then towed up the Elbe to Hamburg.

Around twelve hours later, at around 6 p.m., it will finally pass the Elbphilharmonie and then moor at the Bremen quay in the Hansa harbour opposite Hamburg's Hafencity a good hour later.

It will not be open to the public there immediately. First of all, the interior of the ship has to be further transformed into a museum. However, visitors will then be able to admire the "Peking" from the outside.

The transfer to her former home port promises to be a spectacle; the interest in the almost 110-year-old "Peking" is enormous, and the NDR will be broadcasting a programme throughout the day from 5.30 am. Livestream from the delivery voyage. YACHT also recently devoted a detailed article to the four-master (YACHT 18/2020).

Even though the authorities have banned a larger accompanying parade for safety reasons, onlookers will have numerous opportunities throughout the day to follow this last journey of the Windjammer from the shore.
