The historic pilot schooner "No. 5 Elbe", which collided and sank in its home waters in the early summer of 2019 after extensive restoration work, is on the Hvide Sande Ship Yard was launched on the Danish west coast after a new refurbishment.
All work was carried out to the satisfaction of the client. This included the repair of the broken keel, the replacement of several frames, the renewal of 130 metres of outer skin planking and the repair of the port side bulwark.
The expansion is now to take place in Hamburg, where the Hamburg Maritime Foundation which owns the ship. In addition to the installation of the listed furnishings, which are currently being refurbished in parallel, the entire ship's technology, such as the propulsion system and electrics, is also part of the project. Much of the work is to be carried out by the shipping company Operators' association on a voluntary basis.
The plan is to tow the ship back to the Elbe during the next possible weather window. The pilot schooner is then due to sail under its own power again in summer 2022.
