With a Corona-compliant programme, the organising crew of the Circle of Friends enables the 32. Classic regatta off Laboe to be able to advertise. 120 classic yachts, from stately cruiser yachts to fine Hansa dinghies, are expected at the 32nd German Classics from 20 to 22 August.
Under the motto "Back to the Roots", the regatta, which has been organised since 1989, will be held on long-distance courses of various lengths. The triangular regattas, which have usually been held on Friday for many years, have been cancelled without replacement.
The shore programme will also be different than usual. The ideas range from catering on board to live music from the truck trailer, so that each crew can celebrate in their own cockpit.
The atmosphere could then return to the early days when the event was still called the Veterans' Regatta and had the charm of a provisional meeting. Back then, numerous unrestored classics came to the meeting, and for many owners this was the beginning of a rethink about their own boat.
Many a restoration project began in this way. The restoration prize, which will also be awarded this year, is a reminder of this.
