In mid-August, the classic yachts came together for their annual classic yacht summit in Laboe on the Kiel Outer Fjord. For three days, they sailed, chatted, marvelled and celebrated.

The opening on Thursday evening literally fell through. But that was not a bad omen. On Friday, race director Markus Boehlich was able to send 61 classic boats on two triangular regattas in the Strander Bucht in beautiful sunshine and light winds. Among them were the impressive twelve-boats "Sphinx" and "Trivia" and their no less impressive, gaff-rigged sisters "Heti" and "Cintra". Live music and a prize-giving ceremony formed the programme for the second evening in Laboe.

Everyone was a winner, because the sailing fun was huge"

On Saturday, the traditional long-distance race started on the Stollergrund in a force four north-easterly wind. "Everyone was a winner, because the sailing fun was huge," says Tommy Loewe from the organising Friends of Classic Yachts. "Nevertheless - here are the winners of the individual classes: 12mR:TriviaWilfried Beeck; Große Kreuzer I:Germania VI(One Off A&R), Martin Kramp; Große Kreuzer II:Rusalka (50s SFK), Jan Huerkamp; Neo Klassiker:Anais (Optimist, large), Michael Specht; Schärenkreuzer:Ramona II (22er Schäre), Christian Schneider; 7KR and similar:Suzanne(7KR), Andreas Book; 6KR and similar:Johanna(6KR), Joachim Weber; kites and similar:Triton(Klaus Birkhoff; small cruisers:Saga(pointed gate), Tom Andersen; 5KR and similar:Van Hout (cruiser yacht), Wulf Fiedler; Folkeboote:FreyjaAndreas Fischer; Hansa dinghies etc:Liten Flicka (Pirate) Sören Zopf."

Victory or not, the colourful fleet of ocean-going yachts, large and small cruisers, skerry cruisers, KR yachts, pointed galleys, dragons, creak boats, folk boats, Hansa dinghies and even a pirate provided impressive images in Strander Bucht. Photographer Ekke Erben captured them.

His picture show planned for Saturday evening (see above) had to be cancelled due to the predicted storm, as did the presentation of the restoration prize, which was cancelled due to a lack of applicants, but this did nothing to dampen the mood at the party on Saturday evening.

Looking forward to the Classic Week

Now the classic car community is already looking forward to next year, when a new edition of the "Classic Week", which has already been held in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2019, will take place.
