Many Caribbean cruises are similar to island hopping; short stops are made everywhere. It is worth exploring individual islands more intensively - Martinique, for example. Download PDF now

The typical Caribbean cruise, especially in the Windwards and Leewards area, usually takes crews from one island to another on a daily basis. No wonder, charter crews in particular want to see as much as possible, often in a short space of time. In the end, however, these are only flying visits everywhere; you rarely really get to know the country and its people during the stops.

Not least as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, which made island hopping in the Caribbean difficult in some cases due to various entry restrictions, some crews turned to other strategies. They often limited their stay to the French islands. The problem: there are sometimes other islands in between that have to be passed through without stopping, making the distances quite long.

YACHT author Ricarda Wilhelm and her husband have found a completely different solution. The pair sailed west across the Atlantic for the second time this winter and once again headed for Martinique, among other places. Because the popular bays were much more crowded than usual, they made a virtue of necessity and dared to circumnavigate the island. With success!

They discovered countless dream bays, some secluded, some frequented only by locals. They present 15 of these insider spots in detail in their "Martinique area report" in the new issue of YACHT.The magazine (issue 10/2022) is available as a digital edition in the YACHT app and can be ordered directly here.Or you can download the article directly via the link below.
