With almost 500 nautical miles and 700 islets of all sizes, the area is huge. However, most crews stay in the north around Great Abaco or set off from Marsh Harbour or Nassau directly towards the Exumas in the south. Sailing takes place in the protection of the offshore islands and reefs, often in water only three to five metres deep. The sea shines in the most beautiful light turquoise colours, but also has a tidal current of up to three knots due to the shallow depths.
The Bahamas epitomise the island lifestyle of flat coral beaches with a few palm trees, bars and restaurants. In addition, there are often still secluded islands, bays and beaches. There are said to be 365 islets in the Exumas alone. The nature park there is great for snorkelling. The area is a playground for US crews and the price level is high.
Stops can be found on Nassau or Great Abaco. This usually decides whether you stay in the north or sail south to the Exumas.
Either via Miami (US visa required) or via London once a week directly to Nassau.
