Solar cells, wind generators, radar and other antennas - the list of technical equipment that can make life easier when cruising or make you less dependent on land is long. On blue water yachts, these examples and other equipment are almost standard.
The challenge of device assembly
However, owners of older, used boats who do not want to do without the added safety, comfort and self-sufficiency associated with the devices often consider retrofitting.
But where to put all the technology? After all, most devices are quite large and have special requirements for the installation location. You also have to think about where to lay the cables.
One for all?
The first choice for owners who want to store several power generators and antennas at the same time is often an equipment carrier that stretches over the stern like a bracket. Veritable long-cruising yachts are often already equipped with this at the shipyard - after all, it is extremely practical, as almost everything can be stored here.
The other side of the coin: the throne at the rear is striking; not everyone can reconcile their idea of aesthetics with it. Increased weight and the windage area at the rear also seem to speak against it at first. In addition, retrofitting an implement carrier from a professional can quickly cost several thousand euros.
Variants and self-assembly
So what are the arguments in favour of the distinctive bracket at the rear? How can it be retrofitted - even inexpensively on your own - and what alternative options and brackets are there for installing the desired devices?
