With the 7.45-kilogram T Line, the British cult brand Brompton from London has reworked every millimetre of the classic folding bike and thus developed the lightest Brompton of all time. This is made possible by the use of titanium and carbon as well as the reworking of 150 components. In terms of weight, the T Line is now comparable to a carbon racing bike. Nevertheless, the new Falter is designed to carry 110 kilograms and withstand the constant stress of city traffic.
The manufacturer built a new factory in Sheffield especially for the new edition of the Brompton. The frame is made of titanium there. It is then fitted with the new components in London. These include the drivetrain, the carbon crankset and the 60 gram lightweight rear derailleur, whose gear ratio, according to Brompton, was tested on the route from Amsterdam to San Francisco and optimised for the city.
Another new feature is the carbon seatpost reinforced with a 0.3 millimetre thick steel shell. A super-light seat post that is designed to withstand wear and tear when folding and unfolding, loads of up to 110 kilograms and riding in wind and weather.
To make it faster to fold, self-aligning hinges and a spring-loaded handlebar lock that engages better have been created, as well as larger diameter wheels and, as Brompton promises, an easy-to-grip carbon saddle with an integrated nose grip for greater comfort when pulling and pushing.
The price is 4,360 euros for the T Line One version and 4,590 euros for the T Line Urban version. Test rides are also possible there.
