With the folding bike of the same name, the Viennese company Vello offers a very promising means of transport for travelling on land. It is said to master the balancing act between small pack size and good riding characteristics particularly well.
The Vello is available in four versions: the Rocky with a steel frame and derailleur gears, the Rocky Titan with a lightweight titanium frame, the Alfine 11 (pictured) with belt drive and hub gears and the Bike + with electric drive including recuperation. The dimensions of the frame and the folding mechanism are the same for all models. At 57 x 79 x 29 centimetres, the Vello folds quite small. This means it only takes up a little more space in the back box than the Brompton.
The models differ in weight. The Rocky entry-level model weighs 11.9, the Titan 10.9, the Alfine 12.9 and the electric top model 13.9 kilograms. The latter is powered by a 250 watt electric motor with 40 Newton metres of torque. Prices start at 1,590 euros for the Rocky and range up to 3,290 euros for the Bike +.
