The innovative barbecue from the manufacturer Knister in the Gas Hero version can be operated with gas cartridges as well as coal or wood. To switch, simply remove the gas combustion unit from the grill housing and fill the chamber with coal or wood. This provides sailors with three fuels that can be adapted to the respective situation. Gas can be used for barbecuing on board, for example, if flying sparks are to be avoided, and charcoal, which is favoured by many for the typical barbecue experience, can be used when using the barbecue on land.
Other features make the grill ideal for use on board. The housing can be pushed together to save space or doubled in length to 63 centimetres. The grilling surface is then 52 by 22 centimetres. Barbecuing with coal is possible in both lengths. When pushed together, the Gas Hero takes up little storage space. The housing is made of stainless steel and can be cleaned in the dishwasher at home. When folded up, the legs serve as carrying handles.
The Gas Hero can be operated with the widely used butane/propane gas cartridges (EN 417) or with the large German bottles (5 to 11 litres) or the blue bottles from Campingaz using an adapter hose, which means that the supply available for the pantry cooker can also be used. Barbecuing is possible on two levels. A small coaming keeps the sausage on the fire if the barbecue is used on board and it should rock. A railing bracket is available for use on the boat.
The barbecues from Knister are 100 per cent made in Germany and are available from 129 euros. The Gas Hero costs 229 euros, the railing bracket 49 euros. Accessories such as a plancha plate are also available. Direct purchase for the barbecue: https://knister-grill.com/
