Garmin is expanding the xHD3 series with two new radar units. Available in 18 and 24 inch sizes, the radar antennas are designed to offer a long range and provide particularly sharp and interference-free images. Targets can be highlighted on the map and their track marked. This means that a potential risk of collision can be recognised more quickly. The rotation speed of up to 60 revolutions per minute ensures rapid image formation and updating. GMR 18 xHD3 costs 2,500 euros, with 24 inches 3,350 euros.
Barton Marine has new tiller extensions on offer. The extensions are made of carbon fibre and have a diameter of 22 millimetres. The available lengths are 975, 1,250 and 2,500 millimetres. According to the manufacturer, they are class-compliant for Ilca (formerly Laser), but are also suitable for many other dinghy and skiff classes, such as 49er or RS Aero. The carbon fibre construction is said to be particularly light and stiff. The 975 millimetre extension weighs just 200 grams and the longest version 500 grams. Four colours are available, but custom colours can also be ordered. Price from 140 euros.
The Velocitek Prism is a racing compass that is designed to be easy to read from the harness thanks to its two angled displays. As no GPS is installed, it can be used in accordance with the rules in many dinghy classes, including the Opti, and is very accurate. The display with 30 millimetre high figures offers good contrast even in sunlight. The compass weighs 137 grams and can be charged via USB cable or the integrated solar panel. Price 499 euros.
