Circumnavigator Hans Schubert has endured a five-year test phase with a lithium battery. His findings are instructive for all cruising sailors

On long-distance sailing yachts, one of the most important pieces of equipment is not the plotter, not the spinnaker, and certainly not the generator, but the battery, the heart of the entire equipment, so to speak. And it is also the weak point: low capacity, long charging times, short service life - an expensive item of equipment.

Now everyone is talking about lithium batteries, if only because of the planned switch to electric cars. And its problems, only one of which is range. Global circumnavigator Hans Schubert, who experienced the crossroads with lead batteries for several years, has now given this some thought - and endured a five-year test phase with a lithium battery.

His experience and weighty arguments in favour of lithium batteries can be found here...
