Information events on the "Baltic Sea Protection Action Plan" started yesterday in Eckernförde
The Schleswig-Holstein state government is organising four events to provide information about the Baltic Sea Protection Action Plan (APOS 2030). In the Baltic Sea neighbourhoods affected, citizens and associations can find out about the planned measures and contribute to the protection concept. Yesterday, on 28 April 2025, there was an opportunity to do so in the Eckernförde town hall.

The Schleswig-Holstein state government organised the first of four planned information events on the Baltic Sea Protection Action Plan (APOS 2030) in Eckernförde yesterday. Under the motto "Baltic Sea Protection Schleswig-Holstein - Inform, Exchange, Shape", the government is inviting people to find out about the current status of implementation and to participate in the protection concept. The series of events will take place in the Baltic Sea districts of Schleswig-Flensburg, Rendsburg-Eckernförde, Plön and Ostholstein and is aimed equally at private individuals, associations, political and social stakeholders.

More protection for the Baltic Sea

With a total of 16 measures, the APOS 2030 aims to tackle all sources of pollution in the Baltic Sea: the input of nutrients, overfishing and munitions waste, as well as water pollution from black water and antifouling from recreational boats.

According to the ministry, the focus is on measures that the state of Schleswig-Holstein can implement or initiate itself. A central goal is the realisation of 12.5 % of strictly protected areas in the Schleswig-Holstein Baltic Sea. The plan also addresses existing tasks of the state government, such as the salvage of old munitions. Accordingly, in addition to the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Local Government and Sport, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Transport and Tourism and the Ministry of Agriculture are also involved in the events and implementation.

Inform and involve

The events are divided into two parts: In the first part, representatives of the ministries involved will present the specific implementation steps of APOS 2030. The second part offers local and regional initiatives and associations the opportunity to present options for voluntary involvement in the protection of Schleswig-Holstein's Baltic Sea. Interested citizens will have the chance to talk directly to the initiatives, associations and ministries involved.
