Round birthday, round thing. Three regatta fields from the Elbe, Weser and Jade started on the red rock. All races had to be shortened, with around 15 yachts anchoring in the Elbe estuary to avoid drifting astern. Some missed the finish line at the Vogelsand lighthouse in full ebb current.
The Weser sailors had already been timed on Wurster Arm, and the yachts from the Jade had their regatta finish at Tonne Alte Weser.
With 168 yachts, there were over 30 more boats at the start than last year, when the anniversary race across the Atlantic attracted many participants. Head of organisation Bernd Jörg was extremely satisfied. Above all, the shore programme was sensationally well received despite the change of venue.
The record field of 68 starters in the Pantaenius Skagen race over 510 nautical miles also showed that the Regattagemeinschaft Nordseewoche is on the right track with its programme. All results under www.nordseewoche.org.
