Bonding is on the rise. Of course, this development does not stop at yacht building, supported by the fact that handling resin and hardener is part of the daily business in most shipyards anyway. Strongbacks are glued in, bulkheads are fixed with MS polymers, hull windows are glued in. No screws, no mechanical fixings, just the adhesive. Gluing does not seem to harm the structure and therefore the rigidity of today's designs.
But what exactly is bonding and when is it useful on board? What different types of adhesive are there and what are they used for? And can you as the owner work with adhesives yourself?
In this special, we explain what boat owners need to know about adhesive bonding. Special attention is paid to the material epoxy resin and we show step-by-step application examples for you to copy.
This special was created in collaboration with the company specialising in epoxy resins M. and H. von der Linden. Your co-owner Helge von der Linden also explains everything you need to know about epoxy resin and its application in great detail in four videos. You can find the videos under each article.
