Harm Müller-Spreer and his crews have already sailed to the world championship summit of the TP52 class twice: the Hamburg entrepreneur celebrated his triumphs in 2017 and 2019. This year, the "Platoon" owner and his team are aiming for the title again. But that's not all: Harm Müller-Spreer wants to promote a strong future for the development class and has joined the 52 Super Series as a shareholder.
The three-time Dragon World Champion (1995, 2000, 2001) has been an active, passionate and successful owner and helmsman on the leading international Grand Prix circuit in the TP52 class since 2015. He had previously discovered his preference for the fast and challenging boats on the MedCup circuit. The property entrepreneur, who competes for the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein, seized the opportunity to join the 52 Super Series as a partner with a few plans in mind.
"I'm looking forward to being an active board member and shareholder. I love being on the courses myself. And I like the idea of helping to shape the future together with our other board members. We have a solid group of owners who love their sport as much as I do. And we have new teams that joined us last year and this year. We are keen to be ambassadors to spread the good news and share our love for the sport. I really believe in this course."
In 2022, the 52 Super Series celebrated its tenth anniversary in Barcelona. The racing series was founded in May 2012. The racing yachts are built within the framework of a "box rule", within which certain measurement parameters are defined. Although this results in different boats, they have very similar speed potential. TP52 yachts reach speeds of more than 20 knots in good downwind conditions, which accounts for a large part of their fun factor.
The TP52 class itself was created at the turn of the millennium for the Transpac (TP) Race from Los Angeles to Hawaii. This is where the boats got their name. Today, the 52 Super Series is also known as the "Formula 1 of the non-foiling regatta world". The world championship takes place from 21 to 26 August in Barcelona.
